Motor Vehicle Registration

You must register your vehicle every year.  If you are a new resident, you need to provide proof of residency in order to obtain a registration (mortgage statement, utility bill, and lease agreement are some of the accepted forms of proof). Most answers about the laws concerning titles and registration can be found here.

The Town Clerk is now a municipal agent.  In most cases, you can now get everything done with one visit, instead of also having to go to the state registry in Milford. There is an additional $2.50 fee to purchase your decals from the town.

When registering your car for the first time, come to the Town Office with your Title, or the blue copy of your Title Application if you have recently purchased it from a licensed NH dealer. If your vehicle no longer requires a title, then a Bill of Sale with the information required is acceptable.

When renewing your registration, please bring your old registration or renewal letter with you.

If you have moved or changed your name, you have 10 days to notify the State of New Hampshire. You may fill out the form and bring it with you when registering your vehicle, mail it to the State of NH, or drop it in one of the State's Drop Boxes.

You must also bring an official government issued photo ID with you when registering vehicles.

We accept cash, check and credit/debit cards (there is a fee set by the credit card company if you use your card) in person. You may also renew your vehicle registrations and dog licenses online with a credit/debit card or through ACH from your bank account.

As of March 2024, you can register new boats, renew previous boat registrations, and change boat owners through our office. Please note that, unlike with vehicles and trailers, you do not have to be a Lyndeborough resident to register your boats through our office. Any person who needs a New Hampshire boat registration can register it here. Unfortunately, we do not offer online boat registrations. Thank you.
